Yingkiong waits on a green terrace of the Upper Siang district, 60 km up the river road from Pasighat — the district headquarters town strung above the Siang's gorge, with the long suspension crossing tying its two bank-sides together under the valley walls.
History & culture
The town grew as the Upper Siang's administrative and market seat, its bridge the strategic link of the river's two banks; the district's Adi-Minyong villages and their paddy terraces surround it, and the Siang landing's boats have moved pilgrims, soldiers and apples along these waters for the better part of a century.
