Tso Moriri lies in the Leh district of Ladakh at about 4,522 m, 220 km from Leh and 45 km from Karzok — the high lake of the region, its 120-sq-km water, the wildlife and the camps set on the Rupshu plateau.
History & culture
The lake's story runs with the 2002 Ramsar era — the high lake of the 120-sq-km water and the 2002-era Ramsar listing of the wetland life, with the lake's modern role as the stop of the Leh circuit and the home of the high water and the kiang herds and the 2010s-era camps; the lake's history of the 1980s-era roads and the Karzok village life, gives Tso Moriri its high-lake character.
