Geography & terrain

Tashiding lies in the Gyalshing district of Sikkim at about 1,800 m, 40 km from Gyalshing and 130 km from Gangtok — the holy monastery town of the region, its 1641-era gompa, the stupas and the treks set on the Rathong river's ridge.

History & culture

The town's story runs with the 1641 gompa era — the holy town of the 1641-era gompa and the 17th-century-era consecration of the Nyingma life, with the town's modern role as the pilgrimage of the West Sikkim circuit and the home of the 1641-era gompa and the 100 sacred relics and the 2000s-era treks; the town's history of the 19th-century-era rebuild and the festival days, gives Tashiding its holy character.
