Talakona sits in the Seshadri hills of the Sri Venkateswara National Park, 49 km from Tirupati in Chitoor district — a forested amphitheatre of the Eastern Ghats where Andhra's tallest single-drop waterfall, Talakona's 82-m fall, plunges through the park's dry-deciduous green into a plunge pool.
History & culture
The falls and forests were known to the region's hill peoples and to pilgrims heading for Tirumala long before the national park was carved out in 1989; the range's caves and streams carry Jain and tribal association, and the modern entry gate now regulates a pilgrimage-and-picnic stream grown into weekend traffic.
