Srisailam sits high in the Nallamala hill forests above the Krishna, 232 km from Hyderabad — a pilgrim city holding one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (Mallikarjuna) and one of the 18 Shakti Peethas (Bhramaramba) in a single temple complex, with the river dammed below into the vast Srisailam reservoir.
History & culture
The forest shrine's epigraphs run from the Satavahana era onward, with its greatest building age under the Vijayanagara kings of the 15th–16th centuries; the modern dam (1970s) turned the gorge into a lake and the approach roads into a wildlife corridor — the temple now sits in one of India's largest tiger reserves.
