Geography & terrain

Sankri lies in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand at about 1,950 m, 220 km from Rishikesh and 60 km from Purola — the trek base of the region, its snow trails, the Har ki Dun gate and the village lanes set on the Govind Pashu Vihar's edge.

History & culture

The village's story runs with the 1990s trek era — the trek base of the Har ki Dun trail and the 1990s-era tourism life, with the village's modern role as the base of the Uttarakhand circuit and the home of the snow treks and the 2010s-era homestays and the forest department gates; the village's history of the 2000s-era trail era and the apple orchards and the village's growth, gives Sankri its trek-base character.
