Sangla lies in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh at about 2,230 m, 60 km from Reckong Peo and 190 km from Shimla — the valley town of the region, its orchards, the Baspa river and the cafes set on the Kinnaur's green valley.

The town's story runs with the Kinnauri village era — the valley town of the Baspa river and the orchard life of the Kinnaur hills, with the town's modern role as the base of the Kinnaur circuit and the home of the apple orchards and the 2000s-era cafe life and the Kamru fort; the town's history of the 2010s-era tourism and the Chitkul road and the apple trade, gives Sangla its valley character.
