History & culture
The ashram's story runs with the 1917 Gandhi era — the ashram of the 1917 founding and the 1930 Dandi March starting point, with the ashram's modern role as the pilgrimage of the Ahmedabad circuit and the home of the 1917-era huts and the 1963 museum and the Hriday Kunj cottage; the ashram's history of the 1918 Chhapar sabha and the 1930 march and the 1970s-era memorials, gives Sabarmati its Gandhi character.
