Rewalsar lies in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh at about 1,360 m, 20 km from Mandi and 45 km from Kullu — the holy lake town of the region, its sacred waters, the floating islands and the temples set on the mid-hills.
History & culture
The town's story runs with the 8th-century Padmasambhava era — the holy lake town of the 8th-century-era saint and the sacred waters of the Buddhist-Hindu faith, with the town's modern role as the pilgrimage of the Mandi circuit and the home of the 3 faiths' shrines and the floating islands and the 1970s-era temple lanes; the town's history of the 1994 Tsogyal gompa and the annual festival and the lotus legend, gives Rewalsar its holy-lake character.
