Geography & terrain

Ranthambore National Park lies in the Aravalli foothills of Rajasthan, 130 km from Jaipur, centred on the 10th-century Ranthambore Fort and its ring of lakes. The park's 1,300 km² of dry deciduous forest is the world's most famous tiger-watching reserve.

History & culture

The 10th-century Chauhan fort that gave the park its name was a Rajput stronghold for 800 years — the park is named after the fort, and the reserve itself dates to 1955 (tiger reserve from 1973).
