Ramnagar sits on the banks of the Kosi river at the foot of the Kumaon hills, Uttarakhand, 250 km from Delhi — the gateway town to Jim Corbett National Park, strung along the Delhi–Ramnagar railway and the highway that feeds the park's southern zones.
History & culture
The town grew as the railhead of the Corbett country — the forests around it were protected from 1936 as Hailey National Park, renamed Corbett after the famous hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett whose Bhotia village and early 20th-century stories open the region's history; its heritage continues with the Garjiya temple on the Kosi amid the park-fringe villages.
