Purandar Fort lies in the Pune district of Maharashtra at about 1,397 m, 45 km from Pune and 40 km from Saswad — the twin fort of the region, its 15th-century walls, the Bhavani temple and the views set on the Sahyadri's spur.

The fort's story runs with the 15th-century Maratha era — the twin fort of the Purandar-Vajragad and the 15th-century-era walls of the Yadav era, with the fort's modern role as the heritage stop of the Pune circuit and the home of the 1665 treaty site and the Bhavani temple and the Kedareshwar shrine; the fort's history of the 1665 Mughal treaty and the Shivaji's son's stay and the 4,000-feet views, gives Purandar its twin-fort character.
