Pavagadh lies in the Panchmahal district of Gujarat, 45 km from Vadodara and 150 km from Ahmedabad — the temple hill of the region, its Mahakali shrine, the ropeway and the fort ruins set on the Pavagadh hill.

History & culture

The hill's story runs with the 750-year pilgrimage — the site of the Mahakali temple of the 10th-century-era and the Chandragiri fort of the Parmara kings, with the hill's modern role as the pilgrimage of the Vadodara circuit and the home of the 1986 ropeway (the first of the Gujarat) and the Jain temple; the hill's history of the 1484 siege and the Champaner's ruins and the 2017 sunrise trek, gives Pavagadh its temple-hill character.
