Pattadakal lies in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, 22 km from Badami and 260 km from Hubli — the UNESCO temple complex of the region, its 10th-century temples, the dance festival and the Malaprabha edge set on the river's bend.

History & culture

The site's story runs with the 7th-century Chalukya era — the coronation centre of the Chalukya kings and the 10 temples of the Badami Chalukya style, with the site's modern role as the heritage stop of the Karnataka circuit and the home of the Virupaksha temple (740) and the 1979 UNESCO listing; the site's history of the 3-month dance festival and the 8th-century Papanatha temple, gives Pattadakal its temple-complex character.
