Pasighat sits where the Siang — the young Brahmaputra — bends out of the eastern Himalaya, the oldest town of Arunachal in East Siang district, its long riverfront and green ridges climbing steeply from the water's edge, 150 km from Itanagar along the valley road.
History & culture
Founded as a tea-and-administration river post in 1911, Pasighat claims the state's oldest urban history — the British planted tea and built the first school and courts along the Siang; the town has since become the region's education-and-trade capital while its ferry days and the Daying Ering river-island life keep its river soul.
