History & culture

The lake's story runs with the 1920 reservoir building — the Osman Sagar of the Nizam Osman Ali Khan's era (built after the 1908 floods of the Musi) and the lake's bund of the 1920s, with the lake's modern role as the weekend stop of the Hyderabad circuit and the home of the Gandipet picnic lawns and the boating; the lake's history of the flood protection and the 2021 water-level records, gives the lake its reservoir character.
