History & culture
The town's story runs with the 1531 Bundela founding — the capital of the Orchha kingdom and the palaces of the Bundela rajas, with the town's modern role as the heritage stop of the Bundelkhand circuit and the home of the 17th-century Jahangir Mahal and the Chaturbhuj temple; the town's history of the 1635 Mughal visit and the 1986 wildlife sanctuary and the river's island palace, gives Orchha its palace-town character.
