Orang National Park (Rajiv Gandhi Orang WLS) lies in the Brahmaputra's floodplain in Darrang and Sonitpur districts, 100 km from Guwahati — 79 sq km of grassland, woodland and beels on the river's north bank, its rhino country compact and rewarding.
History & culture
Long a protected reserve of the river plain, Orang was declared a national park in 1999 and has since become Assam's tiger-reserve partner to Kaziranga; its small scale and the Brahmaputra framing have earned it the 'mini-Kaziranga' nickname among the region's wildlife managers.
