Geography & terrain

Nokrek National Park lies in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya at about 1,412 m, 60 km from Tura and 250 km from Guwahati — the biosphere park of the region, its wild oranges, the treks and the mists set on the Nokrek peak.

History & culture

The park's story runs with the 1988 biosphere protection — the Nokrek of the 1988 national park and the 2009 biosphere reserve of the wild-orange lineage, with the park's modern role as the trek and the wildlife stop of the Garo circuit and the home of the citrus gene sanctuary and the hoolock gibbon; the park's history of the Garo tribe's Nokma life and the 1988 core-zone notification, gives the park its biosphere character.
