Geography & terrain
Neora Valley National Park sits in the Kalimpong hills of West Bengal at 183–3,200 m — a 88-sq-km wedge of undisturbed eastern-Himalayan forest along the Neora river, where the temperate to subalpine zones stack above the Lava and Gorubathan approaches, accessible by road to the park fringes and on foot within.
History & culture
Declared a national park in 1986 (after its 1941 reserve-forest origins) to protect the last big blocks of pristine temperate rainforest of the eastern Himalaya, the park is famous as India's prime clouded-leopard country and is linked in the interior to the Sikkim and Bhutan frontier forests — one of the region's great wild corridors.
