Nandaprayag lies in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand at about 1,358 m, 20 km from Karnaprayag and 190 km from Rishikesh — the confluence town of the region, its Alaknanda-Nandakini meeting, the temple and the ghats set on the Garhwal's high valley.
History & culture
The town's story runs with the Panch Prayag tradition — one of the five sacred confluences of the Alaknanda and the temple of the Gopalji (the Krishna), with the town's modern role as the pilgrimage stop of the Char Dham route and the home of the Nandakini's meeting and the ancient stone temple; the town's history of the Pandava legends and the river's goddess myths, gives Nandaprayag its confluence character.
