Nameri National Park spreads 200 sq km on the Jia Bhoroli river at the Assam–Arunachal border, 35 km from Tezpur — a foothill forest of sal and cane breaks, sandbars and stream pools where the great river's braids mark the park's northern edge under the misty hills.
History & culture
A reserve forest since the 1970s and a tiger-reserve project from 2000, Nameri's fame has grown through its river-and-camp culture — the eco-camps on the Jia Bhoroli and the rafting-and-birding industry they built; the park shares the wild corridor with Arunachal's Pakke, keeping the elephant-and-hornbill country intact across the state line.
