Geography & terrain
Namdapha National Park guards 1,985 sq km of eastern-Himalayan rainforest in Changlang district, 130 km from Tinsukia at the end of the Miao road — a wilderness of the Noa-Dihing river and its tributaries climbing from lowland forest to alpine ridges, where India's forests run deepest before the Myanmar border.
History & culture
Declared a tiger reserve and national park in the 1970s, Namdapha holds the claim of sheltering all four big cats — tiger, leopard, snow leopard and clouded leopard — in one forest; its fringe has long been Lisu and Singpho country, and the park's remoteness kept its old-growth stands standing while the plains around were cleared.
