Geography & terrain
McLeod Ganj lies in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh at about 2,080 m, 20 km from Dharamshala and 240 km from Chandigarh — the Tibetan hill town of the region, its Dalai Lama residence, the cafes and the views set on the Dhauladhar's foot.
History & culture
The town's story runs with the 1959 Tibetan settlement — the town of the Dalai Lama's residence (the little Lhasa) and the Tibetan government in exile, with the town's modern role as the monastery and the cafe stop of the region and the home of the Namgyal monastery; the town's history of the Tibetan life and the trek gate of the Dhauladhar, gives McLeod Ganj its Tibetan-town character.
