The town's story runs with the 8th–9th century rock-cut building — the monolithic rock temples of the Indo-Aryan style carved from the single rock, with the town's modern role as the offbeat heritage stop of the Kangra circuit and the home of the 15 shrines of the complex; the town's history of the earthquake damage of 1905 and the restorations, gives Masroor its rock-temple character.
