Geography & terrain
Manali sits at ~2,050 m in Himachal's Kullu Valley, walled in by the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar ranges, with the Beas river running through town. The valley climbs steeply to snowline — Solang (2,560 m), Atal Tunnel (3,100 m) and Rohtang Pass (3,978 m) are all under two hours away.
History & culture
A quiet trading hamlet until the 1960s, Manali grew around the Hadimba Temple (1553) and the 17th-century Manu temple that gives the town its name. It became India's adventure capital after the Manali–Leh highway opened and remains the busiest trailhead in the western Himalaya.
