Geography & terrain

Lohagad Fort lies in the Pune district of Maharashtra at about 1,033 m, 55 km from Pune and 100 km from Mumbai — the trekking fort of the region, its iron walls, the lonavala views and the monsoon trails set on the Ghats' crest.

History & culture

The fort's story runs with the Maratha-era fortification — the hill fort of the 11th-century and the Shivaji's fortress of the 17th century (the iron fort of the treasury's storage), with the fort's modern role as the monsoon trek of the Lonavala circuit and the home of the Vinchu Kata ridge; the fort's history of the 18 gates and the escarpments, gives Lohagad its fort-trek character.
