Kumbhalgarh lies in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, 85 km from Udaipur and 350 km from Jaipur — the hill fort of the region, its 36 km wall, the Badal Mahal and the views set on the Aravali's ridge at about 1,100 m.

The fort's story runs with the 15th-century Mewar building — the fort of Maharana Kumbha of 1458 and the birthplace of Maharana Pratap, with the fort's wall of the 36 km ramparts (the Great Wall of India) and the Badal Mahal palace of the frescoes; the fort's history of the 13 sieges and the sanctuary of the hill, gives Kumbhalgarh its hill-fort character.
