Kausani lies in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand at about 1,890 m, 45 km from Almora and 400 km from Delhi — the view-point town of the Kumaon, its tea gardens, the Gandhi Smriti and the snow-peak ring set on the ridge above the valleys.
History & culture
The town's story runs with the region's view-point fame — the hill town of the British era and the poet Sumitranandan Pant's birth place, with the town's history of the Mahatma Gandhi's 1929 stay (the Gandhi Smriti of his 11-day rest and the naming of the Switzerland of India); the town's role in the region's tea and the mountain views, with the Anasakti Ashram, gives Kausani its view-town character.
