Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary is Bihar's largest, 1,342 sq km of the Kaimur hills and the Son valley across Rohtas and Kaimur districts, 50 km from Sasaram — a wildland of cliffs, waterfalls, reservoirs and dry deciduous forest climbing from the river plain.
History & culture
The sanctuary's hills carry the region's deep past — the rock paintings of the Kaimur escarpments and the legendary ladders of the hill folk — while the historic Mundeshwari temple on the district's other shoulder adds the oldest-claimed worship site of the region; the 1979 sanctuary declaration folded the wild country into the protection of the present.
