Kabini at dawn is a theatre you attend twice a day. The boat cuts through mist on black water, and every bend can deliver the sound you came for — the crack of a branch, the wet cough of an elephant. The lake edge in March is a slow-motion crowd scene: elephants mud-bathing, sambar drinking, crocodiles basking with their jaws open to the sun.
