The park was established in 1981 — the tiger reserve of the Bastar's forests, with the park's history of the tribal country of the region and the wildlife protection of the wild buffalo (the state's rare herd); the park's modern role in the central India's tiger corridors, with the Cutcutola and the Bhairamgarh ranges, gives Indravati NP its forest-wilderness character.
