Haflong is the hill-station town of the Dima Hasao district in the Barail range, 350 km from Guwahati on the Lumding–Silchar hill road — a green town at 680 m around the famous Haflong lake, ringed by the low blue hills of North Cachar, reached through tea-country and mountain rail country.

History & culture

The town grew in the British era as the hill headquarters of the Cachar hills — a summer station of the colonial district officers; its lake and the surrounding village country carry the Dimasa and Hmar peoples' life, and the 1947-India's border railways and the Jatinga village's bird mystery add the district's peculiar fame.
