Guru Ghasidas National Park lies in the Koriya and the Surajpur districts of Chhattisgarh, 200 km from Raipur and 90 km from Ambikapur — the tiger reserve of the state's north, its sal forests and the plateau set at the edge of the Sonhat country.
History & culture
The park was named for the 18th-century Satnami leader Guru Ghasidas and declared a tiger reserve in 2008 — the protected forests of the state's northern plateau, with the park's history of the earlier sanctuaries and the tribal villages of the region; the park's tigers and the leopard and the deer of the sal country, with the region's story of the old forest era, give it its central-India wildlife character.
