Gavi lies in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala at about 800 m, 115 km from Pathanamthitta and 140 km from Kottayam — the eco-tourism village of the Ranni forest division, its lake and the grasslands set in the green of the Western Ghats near the Periyar Tiger Reserve's country.

History & culture

The village's story runs with the region's spice-route past — the cardamom and the pepper country of the Ranni forests, with the area's history of the old hill settlements; its modern story is the Kerala forest department's eco-tourism project — the safari, the trekking and the stay of the camps giving Gavi its protected-forest character within the Periyar's buffer.
