Fatehpur lies in the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, 55 km from Jaipur and 40 km from Sikar — the painted town of the heritage belt, its havelis and frescoes set in the desert country of the Shekhawati's historic trade route.

History & culture

The town was founded in 1451 by the Kayamkhani rulers and grew rich with the 19th-century merchants' trade — the havelis of the town's bankers and the opium-trade wealth, with the frescoed mansions of the family estates; the town's place on the old Jaipur–Bikaner route and its dozens of painted havelis make Fatehpur one of the Shekhawati's gallery towns, with its 'Shekhawati-style' wall paintings of the merchant era.
