Geography & terrain

Drass lies in the Kargil district of Ladakh at about 3,230 m, 60 km from Kargil and 165 km from Srinagar — the town of the Kargil war's ground, its war memorial and the high valley's cold set on the Drass river's bank in the western Ladakh.

History & culture

The town is remembered for the Kargil war of 1999 — the battles of the Tololing and the Tiger Hill on the surrounding heights; the Drass War Memorial of the Kargil heroes now marks the ground, and the town's location on the old Srinagar–Leh route, with the region's story of the highest cold of the inhabited places, gives Drass its frontier-town history.
