Dandeli lies in the Kali river's valley of the Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka, 65 km from Belgaum and 100 km from Panaji — a forest town of the western ghats, its river gorges and sanctuary trails set in the teak and bamboo country.
History & culture
The town grew with the forest's timber age and the paper mills of the river valley, and the Kali's dams and gorges carried the region's industrial water story; its modern life is the adventure country of the north-western state — the white-water rafting of the Kali, the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary's jungle lodges and the trekking lines of the ghat forest making the valley the weekend rafting capital of the region.
