Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary rises on the Dalma range above Jamshedpur in the Purbi Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, 15 km from the city — 195 sq km of the plateau's sal forest, its seasonal elephant herds and the reservoir's water set in the steel city's hills.

History & culture

Declared a sanctuary in 1975, the Dalma forest has protected the corridor country of the region's elephants — the herds' seasonal treks through the hills recorded by the centuries of the forest watch; the sanctuary's tourism complex, the Makbulkundi dam and the rudra-mahadeva temple of the range serve the city's weekend forest.
