Dalhousie sits at about 2,000 metres across five hills of the outer Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh, 80 km from Pathankot and 120 km from Jammu — a hill station of the British era, its pine-shaded lanes and colonial bungalows set above the Ravi and the Beas valleys.
History & culture
Founded in 1854 by the British Governor-General the Earl of Dalhousie, the station grew as the sanatorium and summer post of the Punjab — the colonial churches, the Gandhi Chowk and the cantonment-era buildings carrying that past; the natural beauty of the five hills and the nearness of Khajjiar and Chamba have made modern Dalhousie the quiet heritage town of the north-western circuit.
