Chittorgarh lies in the Berach valley of southern Rajasthan, 190 km from Udaipur and 230 km from Jaipur — the hill fort of the Sisodia rajputs, India's largest fort standing over the town and the plains of Mewar.

History & culture

The Sisodia dynasties held the fort through the epic sieges of Alauddin Khilji and Bahadur Shah — the jauhar of Rani Padmini and the sacking of the fort's successive chapters making Chittorgarh the state's supreme symbol of rajput honour; the Vijay Stambha's tower of victory and the Kirti Stambha's Jain tower carry the fort's commemoration, inscribed a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2013.
