Chintapalli is the hill town of the Alluri Sitarama Raju district's agency country, 90 km from Visakhapatnam and 45 km below Lambasingi — a coffee-and-maize town in the Eastern Ghats' green quilt, strung along the mountain road that links the coast to the Papikondalu and Bhadrachalam country.

The town grew as the administrative seat of the tribal hill tract — a weekly market hub where the valley's Adivasi communities trade maize, millet, coffee and forest gather; its history is deeply tied to the anti-colonial hill revolts of the region's tribal leader Alluri Sitarama Raju, whose name now crowns the district.
