Chapora fort stands on the headland above the Chapora river's mouth in North Goa, 10 km from Mapusa and 25 km from Panaji — the ruined walls of the Portuguese outpost over the Morjim shore and the river's wide water.
History & culture
The fort's walls were built by the Portuguese on the old Adil Shah fort's site in the 17th century to guard the river's mouth and the inland trade; its later life is the famous ruin of the Siolim headland — the film-spot of Bollywood's Dil Chahta Hai and the sunset deck of the north coast's beach walks.
