Le Corbusier's Capitol Complex crowns Chandigarh's Sector 1 at the foot of the Shivalik hills — the Assembly, Secretariat and High Court of the planned capital, a UNESCO World Heritage site's monumental centre set on the vast esplanade.

History & culture

Built in the 1950s as the heart of Le Corbusier's new Chandigarh, the complex's Assembly, Secretariat, High Court and the Open Hand monument carried the modernist manifesto of the new India; inscribed a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2016 alongside the city's other Corbusian works, the complex remains the working seat of the Punjab and Haryana governments.
