The Bhubaneswari Temple crowns the hilltop above Udaipur town in Gomati district, south Tripura — roughly 50 km from Agartala across the rolling green country of the Gumti valley, with the temple's white dome visible on the forested crest above the town's lower slopes.
History & culture
The shrine honors the goddess Bhubaneswari (an aspect of the supreme Shakti in the region's valikan tantrik tradition), built with royal patronage over the colonial era — it is Tripura's most important Shakti-peeth and the site of the famous boon-seeking sacrifice rituals of the Manikya era; the current structure's rebuilding (dedicated to the love and power of the goddess) preserves the annual Diwali Mela, the biggest religious fair of southern Tripura.
