Bhavani Island sits in the middle of the Godavari river near Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh — a low green isle of mangroves and palms that splits the great river's braided channel, reached only by boat from the city's ghats.
History & culture
The island's story is the Godavari's own — a silt-built island of the delta country where the Pushkaram revellers' boats and the historic bathing ghats of Rajahmundry meet. The state's tourism board developed it as a riverside resort-island with gardens, cottages and boat pontoons, making it the region's family-day playground.
