Geography & terrain
Bharmour is the high-valley town of the Budhil (Ravi tributary) upstreams in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, about 2,135 m — a green bowl of apple and saffron terraces at the foot of the Manimahesh Kailash massif, and the trek-gate of the Kugti passes to Lahaul.
History & culture
The old capital of the Chamba rulers before their move downriver, Bharmour kept its ancient sacred core: the Chaurasi temple complex (84 shrines honoring 84 yoginis and the mid-10th-century Shiva lineage of the local kings) — one of the great timber-and-stone temple ensembles of the western Himalaya. On the same ridge, the Manimahesh lake yatra (August) brings lakhs of pilgrims to the high shrine.
