Barsoor was a capital of the region's early dynasties — its temples built under the Nagavanshi kings of the 10th–12th centuries; the surviving shrines — the Mama-Bhanja temple's twin sanctums and the Chandravati temple — and the scattered sculptures rank the village among central India's important lesser-known archaeological sites.
