Baijnath lies on the southern skirt of the Dhauladhar range in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh — a town on the old Palampur–Bir road, with the snowy massif rearing above the pine flats and the Bindra river grooving past.
History & culture
The town's Shiva temple dates to 1204 AD, raised on the Jalandhara-peetha traditions by the local hill kings — it is among India's oldest continuously active temple-shrines, and many list it as one of the twelve jyotirlinga sites (as Vaidyanath). The temple's fine stone sculpture and its copper-plate consecration record make it a jewel of Himalayan epigraphy.
