Baghmara is the riverside town of the South Garo Hills, Meghalaya, sitting where the Simsang river bends near the Bangladesh border — a green ferry-and-fishing town, 220 km from Shillong, on the route to Balpakram National Park.
History & culture
A trade and ferry point between the Garo highlands and the Bangladesh plains, Baghmara grew with the district's settlement and border commerce; its name (tiger-tank) carries the old forest menace of the Simsang jungles. Today it is the practical base town for Balpakram visitors.
